i found a way to attach static meshs to animations. this might be quite helpful; for example for making weaponmods. you can make the normal weapon invisible and attach a static mesh instead of it.
heres an example of a rebelblaster
and heres a vid of a dc15 blaster carabine(not sure if the weapon is called that like) like in battlefront

looks quite good in my opinion and its definatly less complicated than making and importing new animations. if thats even possible.
btw both weapon are modeled by fey from the pfw-clan.
