General / I don't know how to say this but...

I guess you could consider this my retirement, I suppose....
It makes me sad to leave this community, but I haven't touched RC or Unreal Ed in almost two years now.  So, as I type I'm uninstalling the game.  I may reinstall it and make a "goodbye" map when I get my new computer, but until then, goodbye.

I want to thank all of you, especially those of you who have been here since RC modding was still taking its first steps.  Thank you, for your help in conceptualizing, building, and testing maps.

Why don't we all get like 100 hotmail addresses, then all email lucasarts telling them to make and RC2?  If nice asking dosen't work, then we could tell G. Lucas that we knew he was "fooling around" with the maid, but we would only tell his wife if he didn't make RC2???!!!

Unreal Engine 2 General Modding Chat / Gmod in RC?

I was watching some videos of GMOD in action, and thought it would be cool for RC.  So I got to some poking around and found BF2 Sandbox.  I Played this and thought it might be easier to do.

Anyway, in case you don't know, gmod is a mod for half-life 2 that lets you spawn and move objects at will (I'm sure that there is more, but this is my basic goal for the RC mod).

I want to make an RC mod like this, where you can either summon objects, or you can pick up ones already on the level (Karma actors) with some sort of grabbing gun.

I am working on this, and if you have any ideas on how I could get this to work, please feel free to post them

P.S. ANY IDEAS ARE WELCOME, don't shoot someone down for having a dumb idea, it might just help!

Ok, so I don't want to give away too much about my mod, but I will give my progress.

2 out of 6 needed maps done
Got ONE faction done about 50%
Haven't started on weapons.

If you wanna help, I need:
Modelers/Animators for the new weapon HUDs

Uhh, I need to know how to link new projectiles to the new weapons I make (LOL I wanna make my dodge ball mod a mylevel map file type thing)

Oh and BTW, where in the MPPawn's properties does it say what team number it is (you know like trandos a number 1)

General / AHHHHH my RC broke!!!

Ok guys, so the other day, I popped my RC CD into my CD drive, and nothing happened... so I clicked play RC in the start menu. Nothing happened.
So I clicked the icon in my computer that says "commando_1(E/:)...
Nothing happened...
So I uninstalled thinking that was it, but it wasn't..
Now, I put the CD into my CD drive and nothing happens, and the installer won't open..
I am able to play BF2 and Halo just fine..
My bro can also play RC on his comp with the same disk that I am trying to use.
So, now I am stuck without an RC or any of the files used in UED...
My mapping ability has been suspended by this...
Well, yeah, I need help..

Texturing / A question

How do I make masked textures, like, textures with clear parts?
I tried making the parts i wanted invisible black, but that didn't work...
I looked all over the Udn and all I found was like one paragraph!

Ok, so I got this really cool map, and I open up UED to work on it a little bit.
So I'm crusin' around and I get near the terrain, and guess what? There is a black spot within a radius of about 1024 units of the camera.
I get scared Sh*tless and quickly close (this happened to me once, I had to trash the entire map) and go play test.
But guess what! The black thing is still there!!!!'
I didn't change any settings or anything....
I think it might be like an occlusion of light around the player on the terrain.

Single Player Level Design / Path node-ing er... whatever

yeah, I figured this out the other day...
To link a pawn to a path node you have to first add a pawn, then a path node.
Go to the pawn's properties then click{AI}
Scroll down to patrol route, then click add
select the node area within what it just made, then select the node and click 'use'

This will make your bot walk around in your level, so you could use these to make a droid round the corner and start shooting at you.

Any way, I figured this would help, so EVERYONE can know how....
I'll write a comprehensive tutorial later and make a map to go with it.
